Premarital Counseling in Spanish Fork and Orem
Build the skills and understanding your marriage will lean on for years to come.
Start your marriage on solid ground
Premarital counseling isn’t only for couples who are struggling. It’s for any couple who wants to go into marriage with eyes open, talking honestly about the things that matter before they become sources of conflict.
Whether you’re newly engaged, seriously dating, or recently married, our therapists in Spanish Fork and Orem help you understand each other more deeply and build habits that keep you connected.
What we talk about
Every couple is different, so we shape sessions around what matters most to you. Common topics include:
- Communication – how to really listen and say hard things kindly
- Conflict – how to disagree, repair after a fight, and avoid patterns that wear a relationship down
- Expectations and roles – work, household responsibilities, and what each of you imagines marriage will look like
- Money – spending, saving, debt, and making financial decisions together
- Intimacy and sex – honest, comfortable conversations about physical and emotional closeness
- Family of origin – how the families you grew up in shape you, and setting healthy boundaries with in-laws
- Faith and values – including couples who believe differently
- Children and parenting – whether, when, and how you hope to raise a family
What to expect
You’ll meet together with a therapist. Sessions are practical and conversational, with tools you can start using right away.
Most couples meet for several sessions before the wedding. We’ll talk about your goals and timeline at the start.
Already married?
The first years of marriage come with big adjustments. If you’re newlyweds, or you’ve hit challenges you didn’t expect, our couples therapy can help you get back on the same page.
Frequently asked questions about premarital counseling
When should we start premarital counseling?
Ideally a few months before the wedding, so you have time to practice what you learn before life gets busy. But it’s never too late, and many couples start soon after getting engaged or even while seriously dating.
Do we need to be having problems to come in?
Not at all. Most couples who come for premarital counseling are happy and simply want to keep it that way.
Does insurance cover premarital counseling?
Usually not, since insurance typically covers treatment for a diagnosed condition. A 60 minute self-pay session ranges from $110 to $160. See our pricing and insurance page for payment options.
Can we do sessions online?
Yes. You can meet with us in person in Spanish Fork or Orem, or online from anywhere in Utah, which is helpful if you live in different cities before the wedding.
