Hope Therapy is a trusted practice serving Utah for the last 7 years. We started small and simple with goals to just grow a little and now we have thrived into a Spanish Fork location, Orem location, and online with around 30 therapists with a variety of specialties. We are able to help hundreds of people every week and thousands in the year! Amanda Christenson is the owner and original therapist and mostly hires Marriage and Family Therapists or therapists with specialized experience to keep us well rounded. We have four supervisors who are all AAMFT approved/candidates, which means they are highly trained and more experienced than the typical Utah supervisor.

There is something special at Hope: shared goals and deep meaning making from the work we do. We have the best job on earth being let into people’s lives, giving them every ounce of expertise and relationship we have, and then saying goodbye with a lot of hope for the future. Our name was easy to come up with. Hope is profound, but the journey can be bleak. The human spirit is filled with perseverance and with a little hope, giant changes can occur. Lives change in front of us every day. It is reasonable to expect change from the therapeutic process and it is our mission to spark hope for every client.

Why the plate?

You may have noticed the plate in our logo that is lined and streamed with gold. That plate is known as Kintsugi. It is a traditional Japanese art form that has a very symbolic message about what we do when things are broken. Instead of replacing or discarding pottery, broken pieces are repaired with gold, silver, and platinum lacquer. Simple pottery becomes priceless art because of the way it was broken and repaired.

That symbolism carries a lot of meaning for us as a practice. We truly believe that we can’t discount or discard ourselves if we are cracked or broken. When we have pain, it doesn’t mean we aren’t useful. In fact, we are more beautiful because we are broken. We seek repair because in doing so we learn of our value and our strength. This is the essence of resilience. Each of us can have ways to cope with traumatic events in a positive way, learn from negative experiences, and understand that it is exactly these experiences that make each person unique, precious, and real. As therapists we value your breaks and seek to help you value and find the beauty in them as well.

Please feel free to call or text our office. We have compassionate and loving people to take your call and help you find the right therapist for your needs. (801) 515-2282

What is an MFT?

At Hope Therapy we have sought to bring the best therapy and counseling services possible to Spanish Fork, Orem and Utah County. We take pride in belonging to this special community and understand that individuals and families in our communities value their families, lifestyle and their opportunities to grow and learn. We are honored that we can be part of that journey for those who need our help.

Most of our therapists at Hope Therapy are Marriage and Family Therapists, commonly referred to as MFT’s. On the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists Website they summarize what makes MFT’s special:

“Research studies repeatedly demonstrate the effectiveness of marriage and family therapy in treating the full range of mental and emotional disorders and health problems. Adolescent drug abuse, depression, alcoholism, obesity and dementia in the elderly — as well as marital distress and conflict — are just some of the conditions Marriage and Family Therapists effectively treat.

Studies also show that clients are highly satisfied with services of Marriage and Family Therapists. Clients report marked improvement in work productivity, co-worker relationships, family relationships, partner relationships, emotional health, overall health, social life, and community involvement.

In a recent study, consumers report that marriage and family therapists are the mental health professionals they would most likely recommend to friends. Over 98 percent of clients of marriage and family therapists report therapy services as good or excellent.

After receiving treatment, almost 90% of clients report an improvement in their emotional health, and nearly two-thirds report an improvement in their overall physical health. A majority of clients report an improvement in their functioning at work, and over three-fourths of those receiving marital/couples or family therapy report an improvement in the couple relationship. When a child is the identified patient, parents report that their child’s behavior improved in 73.7% of the cases, their ability to get along with other children significantly improved and there was improved performance in school. Marriage and family therapy’s prominence in the mental health field has increased due to its brief, solution-focused treatment, its family-centered approach, and its demonstrated effectiveness.”
